'The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate Family' Success Boosts Netflix and TVING User Numbers ↑

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The number of users of online video services (OTT) that aired the JTBC drama "Jaebeoljip Maknae Adeul" (The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate), which captivated audiences at the end of last year, has all increased simultaneously.

According to mobile index statistics from big data platform company IGAWorks on the 15th, the monthly active users (MAU) of the Netflix app last month were approximately 11.6 million.

The number of Netflix users rose to 12.13 million in August last year, boosted by the popularity of the drama "Strange Lawyer Woo Young-woo," but then decreased for three consecutive months, falling to around 10.9 million in November.

After that, the number of users rebounded by nearly 700,000 in one month, which is analyzed to be largely due to the success of "Jaebeoljip Maknae Adeul." According to the Netflix website, this drama entered the global TV non-English TOP 10 on November 21 last year and maintained its position for six consecutive weeks.

Tving's MAU also recorded 4.89 million last month, increasing by nearly 600,000 in one month. Users had been between 3.8 million and 4.3 million for a year until November last year, but the surge is interpreted as a result of more viewers seeking "Jaebeoljip Maknae Adeul."

Disney+'s MAU was 1.95 million last month, up by 240,000 in one month. This app also reversed a two-month decline in users and recorded its highest number since January last year (2 million).

Other domestic OTTs that did not air "Jaebeoljip Maknae Adeul" generally showed stagnant user numbers last month. Wave's MAU was 4.08 million, down by 110,000 in one month. Watcha had 810,000 users, which is about 5,000 fewer than in November last year.
