Adverse Cases After COVID-19 Vaccination... "141 Additional Cases Recognized"

According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 14th, the Vaccination Injury Compensation Expert Committee held the 1st Compensation Committee meeting on the 10th and reviewed a total of 1,160 new cases of compensation claims for adverse reactions following COVID-19 vaccination. Among these, 141 cases (12.1%) were recognized as having a causal relationship with the COVID-19 vaccine and compensation was decided.


The Compensation Committee dismissed cases such as common adverse reactions that usually appear within 3 days after vaccination, complications unrelated to underlying diseases or the vaccine, and cases caused by infections other than the vaccine, stating that these are not recognized as adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine.


As of now, the cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccination injury compensation claims is 92,531, of which 80,206 cases (86.7%) have been reviewed. The Compensation Committee decided to compensate a total of 22,665 cases (28.3%), including 16 death cases.


Among the claims for small medical expenses under 300,000 KRW based on out-of-pocket costs, 14,742 cases underwent local government review for expedited review, and 5,508 cases were approved for compensation.


According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Injury Compensation Support Center, the total number of medical expense support recipients for suspected related diseases is 1,222, and the number of recipients for death condolence payments is 8. For 48 recipients of condolence payments due to undetermined cause of death after autopsy, individual guidance is being provided through the respective local governments and applications are being accepted, with payments completed for 40 people.
