Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Appoint Export Strategy Officers at Overseas Missions

'Follow-up Measures for Overseas Diplomatic Missions as Export Hubs'
Also Discussing Nuclear Power, Defense, and Construction Plants

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] As part of economic-centered diplomacy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has designated export strategy officers for each overseas region and decided to expand corporate support missions and regional scale. Through overseas regions, they plan to detect supply chain risks early and strengthen solidarity with value-sharing countries.

On the 13th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the '2nd One-Stop Export and Order Diplomacy Support Task Force' meeting chaired by Second Vice Minister Lee Do-hoon to discuss these measures. This is a follow-up to the 'Overseas Missions as Export Bases' announced in the early-year work report. The meeting also discussed strengthening sales diplomacy for nuclear power, defense, and construction plants, as well as activating overseas mission-centered corporate support councils.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Park Jin emphasized the importance of economic diplomacy by stating in the presidential work report, "In South Korean diplomacy, economy is security, and security is economy," and stressed "turning all overseas missions into export forward bases."

Regarding this, President Yoon Suk-yeol emphasized the urgent need for active government roles in a situation where security, economic trade, healthcare, and advanced technology are converging. He also instructed overseas missions to actively contribute as representatives of the entire Republic of Korea.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to strengthen solidarity with value-sharing countries through overseas missions. The global supply chain consultative body will also reflect the positions of our industries. In particular, by focusing on the operation of the one-stop export and order diplomacy support task force, they intend to concentrate their capabilities on economic diplomacy this year.
