[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency will launch a comprehensive security operation for the Lunar New Year holiday from the 16th to the 24th.
The provincial police agency announced on the 13th that, in the endemic era of periodic infectious disease outbreaks, the demand for security is expected to increase compared to previous years due to the public's desire to return to normal life, and they will conduct activities to ensure a peaceful Lunar New Year holiday for residents.
Through establishing a police response system, they plan to prepare for reports of major crimes and domestic violence as well as traffic demands, and focus on preventing livelihood-related crimes such as robbery and theft caused by worsening economic conditions.
Centered on the Crime Prevention Officer (CPO) team, they will strengthen patrols focusing on ▲ prevention of major crimes occurring during the holiday period ▲ preventive activities at vulnerable facilities such as financial institutions and jewelry stores ▲ areas prone to malicious fraud and drug crimes such as one-room apartments, villa areas, and entertainment establishments.
They will prepare appropriate measures for each vulnerable factor, including crime prevention education by region, campaigns, promotion using SNS, and environmental improvements.
Considering that the proportion of domestic violence reports usually increases during the Lunar New Year holiday period, they will monitor households at risk of repeated domestic violence and actively promote victim support and protection activities by promptly dispatching officers to the scene upon receiving reports.
Through step-by-step traffic management before and after the holiday period, they will focus on cracking down on major accident causes and traffic disorder behaviors and secure vehicle flow.
From the 16th to the 19th, parking will be allowed in traditional markets, and management will focus on congested places preparing for the holiday such as large marts and public cemeteries.
From the 20th to the 24th, which includes the holiday, they will manage traffic on national and local roads connected to highways and interchanges (ICs) and ensure safety and smooth traffic flow on the outbound and return routes.
A provincial police agency official said, “During the Lunar New Year holiday period, we will secure public safety by responding swiftly and strictly to crimes targeting socially vulnerable groups such as domestic violence and stalking, as well as livelihood-related crimes like phishing.” He added, “We will maintain an all-out response system across all police functions and do our best to eliminate blind spots in security through proactive law enforcement.”
