Park Jin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced that he had a New Year's greeting call with Hayashi Yoshimasa, Japan's Minister for Foreign Affairs, on the same day.
During this call, the two ministers exchanged views on current issues and mutual interests between South Korea and Japan, including the forced labor issue. The ministers agreed to maintain close communication at all levels between their diplomatic authorities to promote the development of Korea-Japan relations and resolve pending issues.
They also discussed the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula and agreed to strengthen Korea-Japan and Korea-US-Japan cooperation to deter North Korea's nuclear and missile threats. It is also known that Minister Hayashi evaluated the 'Indo-Pacific Strategy' announced by our government at the end of last year during the call.
