The Uiseongjin rice, the main ingredient of the gift rice cake soup rice cakes, is a premium rice variety cultivated in the An-gye Plain area, a single-cropping zone known for its rich organic matter and fertile soil, and is recognized for its excellent taste.
In particular, to maintain superior grain quality, the region selectively uses local yellow soil for contract cultivation. Additionally, pesticide and chemical fertilizer use is minimized, organic fertilizers are applied, and quality is strictly managed according to the brand rice production manual, including timely harvesting, purchasing, and processing.
Kim Joo-soo, the mayor of Uiseong-gun, said, "With Uiseongjin rice, which boasts the best taste through thorough quality control, included in the President's Lunar New Year gift, it has become an opportunity to once again showcase the excellence of its grain quality domestically and internationally. The Lunar New Year gifts sent by the Presidential Office are known to include rice cake soup rice cakes made from Uiseongjin rice, as well as gopchang gim (seaweed) from Sinan, Jeonnam; dried pollack strips from Inje, Gangwon; shiitake mushroom strips from Cheongyang, Chungnam; anchovies from Tongyeong, Gyeongnam; and red shrimp from Ongjin, Incheon.
