Large supermarkets have launched various food discount events ahead of the Seollal holiday.
According to the industry on the 14th, Emart is holding events featuring various Peacock ready-to-eat meals and instant cooking foods. Until the 1st of next month, they are offering a 20% discount on 11 types of Peacock soups and stews for ancestral rites, and providing a 5,000 won gift certificate for purchases over 25,000 won. Representative products include six types of holiday namul (seasoned vegetables) and assorted jeon (Korean pancakes) sets.
Lotte Mart is holding a Seollal seasonal product sale with discounts up to 50% until the 18th. In collaboration with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, they supply government-stocked frozen hairtail and croaker fish to stabilize prices, selling Jeju hairtail in extra-large and large sizes at 8,500 won and 3,700 won respectively, and price-stabilized croaker at 1,900 won. Popular holiday seafood is offered at prices up to 50% cheaper. Essential ingredients such as beef for tteokguk (rice cake soup), yukjeon (pan-fried beef), and sanjeok (skewered meat) are offered at discounted prices for L.Point members.
Homeplus has prepared a convenient Seollal table planning event until the 25th. Products such as tteokguk rice cakes and frozen jeon varieties that allow easy preparation of the ancestral rites table are offered at a 10% discount for My Homeplus membership members. Various types of jeon, a representative holiday dish, are also available at a 10% discount.
A representative from the large supermarkets said, “To celebrate the first holiday of 2023, Seollal, we have focused on deli, ready meals, and livestock categories so that everyone can enjoy a bountiful Seollal table,” adding, “We hope this event will reduce the burden of holiday preparations and allow families to have a joyful Seollal holiday.”
