Kurly announced on the 13th that its self-developed insulated paper pouch was selected as the winner in the e-commerce category of the 2023 WorldStar Packaging Awards. This is the second award following the insulated paper box.

The WorldStar Packaging Awards, organized annually by the World Packaging Organization, recognize innovative and excellent packaging technologies introduced throughout the year. This year, 228 innovative packaging technologies from 38 countries worldwide were selected.

The insulated paper pouch utilizes the characteristics of paper honeycomb fabric, which is used as a substitute for vinyl air caps. By placing the paper honeycomb fabric inside the pouch, it creates an air layer that retains the cold air generated from ice packs, maintaining the insulation effect. Although the pouch is 18% smaller in volume than the existing insulated paper box, it can maintain a temperature of minus 10 degrees Celsius for 14.5 hours during frozen product delivery.

It also has a high environmental protection effect. The pouch form seals when the wings are folded, eliminating the need for separate tape and allowing immediate recycling. The amount of paper pulp used was also reduced. Compared to the existing insulated box, paper usage was cut by 54%, saving an area equivalent to 1,450 soccer fields annually. Eco-friendly paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which is awarded to sustainably produced paper, was used.

Kim Seul-ah, CEO of Kurly, said, “We were the first in the e-commerce industry to establish a packaging planning team in 2019 and launched a corporate research institute in 2020 to continuously study packaging materials. We understand this award as a call to continue our efforts and will relentlessly challenge ourselves to provide delivery that is more beneficial to people and the environment.”
