Lotte Hi-Mart Takes Carbon Reduction Measures by Utilizing Store Parking Lots

Socar, Modu Company, and Jungang Control Sign Business Agreement to Build Carbon Reduction Infrastructure

Lotte Hi-Mart Takes Carbon Reduction Measures by Utilizing Store Parking Lots (From the right) Kwangkyu Jo, Head of Management Support Division at Lotte Hi-Mart, Youngsik Oh, CEO of Jungang Control, Donghyun Kim, CEO of Modu Company, and Hyunjong Wi, Vice President of Socar, are signing a business agreement and taking a commemorative photo.

On the 13th, Lotte Hi-Mart announced that on the 12th, it signed a multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to build carbon reduction infrastructure with Socar, Modu Company, and Joongang Control at Socar's headquarters in Seongdong-gu, Seoul. The four companies will contribute to reducing carbon emissions through various forms of marketing partnerships using each company's mobility services. Lotte Hi-Mart plans to utilize its store customer parking lots to practice ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management.

Socar, which operates a car-sharing platform, runs 'Socar Zones' at over 140 Lotte Hi-Mart stores. Through the use of shared vehicles such as electric cars, it suppresses pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions and improves mobility convenience for nearby residents, including store visitors.

Modu Company provides idle parking lot brokerage services through the parking application 'Modu-ui Juchajang.' It utilizes about 30 Lotte Hi-Mart stores mainly in the metropolitan area and major cities where parking difficulties are severe. The service operates from 9 PM to 8 AM the next day, outside business hours, and is expected to contribute to alleviating local parking shortages.

Lotte Hi-Mart and Joongang Control, a company specializing in electric vehicle charging, will build electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in parking lots at major stores nationwide. Starting with investments in transformer facilities within stores, they plan to increase the number of stores with EV charging stations. This will enhance accessibility to EV charging services and promote the use of electric vehicles.

Cho Gwang-gyu, Head of Management Support Division at Lotte Hi-Mart, said, “To practice carbon reduction as part of ESG management, we are promoting collaboration with leading partners in the mobility industry. We will continue to introduce partnership services to improve convenience for customers visiting Lotte Hi-Mart and residents living near the stores.”
