The World's Only 'One City' Based Photography Festival
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The Pohang International FOTO Festivals (PIFF) will be held from the 19th to the 30th at the Pohang Culture and Arts Center and the Culture and Arts Factory.
This exhibition consists of works capturing the scenes of Pohang by renowned domestic and international invited artists, as well as winning pieces from the Pohang International FOTO Festivals general contest, youth exhibition, and old photo exhibition. Additionally, invited artist lectures and discussions will be held as side events.
The "Pohang International FOTO Festivals" is the world's first international photo festival based on a single city, celebrating the beauty and stories of Pohang.
First, in the "Invited Artists Exhibition" under the theme of "Sustainable City," visitors can appreciate works reflecting Pohang's sustainability through the perspectives of globally renowned domestic and international artists.
There is also an exhibition featuring various themes selected through the contest.
The exhibition includes works selected by theme such as "Life & Culture," focusing on Pohang's culture and citizens' lives; "Cityscape," capturing the city's landscapes and emotions; "Environment & Documentary," portraying Pohang's unique traditional culture or scenery; "Before 2022 Pohang," showing various aspects of Pohang since 2000; and "Video Graphy," which introduces works expressing Pohang through videos and drones rather than photographs, regardless of theme.
Alongside these, the "Youth Pohang Photo Exhibition" features elementary, middle, and high school students residing in Pohang capturing the city from their own perspectives to reveal the true nature of Pohang through photography. The "Old Photo Exhibition" brings to light old photos dormant in households, inspiring pride in local culture across time, space, and generations. Also, the graduation exhibition of students from the "Pohang Citizen Photography College," held as part of the Pohang International FOTO Festivals, can be viewed.
Beyond the exhibitions, various side events such as a nationwide academic conference on the theme of City Branding and lectures and discussions by famous domestic and international artists will be held.
An event official stated, "The key point to focus on is the 'outsider's perspective.' Comparing the viewpoints of outsiders and locals in interpreting the city of Pohang is a very meaningful task, and this exhibition will leave meaningful memories of Pohang not only for Pohang citizens but also for visitors."
