5,916 Pigs Culling at Same Owner's Farm Near Outbreak Farm

[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Pocheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 12th that "after two farms near the farm where African Swine Fever (ASF) occurred in Jung-ri, Gwanin-myeon on the 5th tested negative, preventive culling will also be carried out on farms owned by the same owner near the affected farm (Chogwa-ri, Gwanin-myeon)."

According to the city, the farm raises 5,916 pigs and is located 3 km away from the affected farm, thus falling within the surveillance area. However, the Central Livestock Disease Control Committee decided on preventive culling considering that the owner is the same and that it is a family farm.

The culling began on the evening of the same day and is scheduled to be completed by the 13th. A total of about 80 personnel, including private workers and livestock quarantine officers, are involved, and equipment such as dump trucks and excavators are being deployed.

Three disinfection vehicles have been deployed around the culled farm with the cooperation of the Pocheon Livestock Cooperative Joint Disinfection Team, focusing on intensive disinfection, and the disaster situation room has been strengthened to maintain a 24-hour emergency system.

Baek Young-hyun, mayor of Pocheon City, said, "The city has decided to carry out preventive culling to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever," adding, "We will promptly and accurately implement all quarantine measures in response to the ASF outbreak and make every effort to prevent its recurrence."

Meanwhile, the Central Accident Response Headquarters for African Swine Fever announced on the same day that ASF occurred at a pig farm located in Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon Province.

This farm is a family farm of the pig farm in Pocheon City where ASF occurred on the 5th, and ASF was confirmed during a follow-up detailed inspection of the affected farm in Pocheon City.

Following the confirmation of ASF at the pig farm in Cheorwon-gun, the Central Accident Response Headquarters dispatched an initial response team and an epidemiological investigation team to the site and took initial quarantine measures according to the emergency action guidelines (SOP).
