Jinju City Prioritizes Citizens' Health and Water Supply Stability During Lunar New Year Holiday

Comprehensive Measures Preparation, Operation of Countermeasure Situation Room

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, has established and is implementing the ‘2023 Lunar New Year Holiday Comprehensive Plan’ to ensure that citizens have a healthy and comfortable holiday during the Lunar New Year holiday period.

The city will operate a comprehensive situation room and an on-site civil complaint response team from the 21st to the 24th, the Lunar New Year holiday period, to prevent COVID-19, incidents and accidents, and to resolve citizen inconveniences.

To firmly maintain the COVID-19 quarantine system during the Lunar New Year holiday, a 24-hour work posture will be maintained. The comprehensive situation room will be staffed by 79 people across six sectors, including the general support team, and the on-site civil complaint response team will have 62 people across eight sectors, including the mobile garbage cleaning team, to alleviate citizen inconveniences.

This comprehensive plan includes a total of seven promotion areas and detailed plans: ▲ COVID-19 quarantine ▲ prevention of incidents and accidents ▲ price stabilization and resolution of unpaid wages ▲ resolution of resident inconveniences ▲ creation of a frugal and quiet holiday atmosphere, among others.

First, the city plans to intensively encourage preventive vaccinations before the Lunar New Year holiday, as social contact increases due to increased movement such as hometown visits and outings during the holiday period.

In addition, the city will actively respond to COVID-19 quarantine by maintaining emergency operations at the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, operating screening clinics at public health centers during the holiday, maintaining emergency medical systems at private hospitals, activating dedicated response teams (10 teams) for infection-vulnerable facilities, and strengthening preemptive testing of workers during the holiday period.

To prepare for various incidents and accidents during the Lunar New Year holiday, safety inspections will be conducted on disaster-vulnerable facilities and traffic safety facilities. Measures will also be taken simultaneously to strengthen quarantine against AI, ASF, and foot-and-mouth disease, prevent snow damage and forest fires, and implement environmental pollution prevention measures.

To stabilize prices during the Lunar New Year holiday, the city has been operating a price stabilization task force from the 9th to the 20th, investigating price trends and supply and demand conditions for 16 major holiday items through price monitoring agents, and plans to disclose price information.

Along with this, from the 16th to the 19th, a field inspection team will be operated for four days to guide and inspect price labeling systems and intensively crack down on unfair commercial practices.

The city will also operate an on-site civil complaint response team during the holiday to minimize citizen inconvenience. They will promptly handle complaints, emergency water leakage repairs, timely collection of household waste, and implement a rotation system for LPG sales outlets to ensure stable gas supply.

Furthermore, to provide convenience for visitors to park cemeteries, a total of 52 personnel, including vehicle guides and traffic control officers, will be deployed around Naedong Park Cemetery and Anrak Park to manage traffic and assist visitors.

To minimize medical service gaps during the holiday, seven 24-hour emergency medical institutions and six screening clinics will operate to conduct diagnostic tests if suspected COVID-19 cases arise. Hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies open during the holiday will be designated and posted on the city hall website.

In addition, to ensure that social welfare facilities and vulnerable marginalized groups can have a warm holiday, the city will cooperate with various institutions and organizations to conduct consolation activities. It will also conduct investigations and inspections related to public official discipline violations, corruption acts related to integrity evaluations, and compliance with the public official code of conduct, especially those that may arise in the festive atmosphere of the Lunar New Year.

Mayor Jo Gyu-il said, “We have established and are operating a comprehensive plan to ensure a healthy and comfortable Lunar New Year holiday. In particular, we will do our best to manage price stabilization so that citizens, who are burdened by recent high prices, can welcome the Lunar New Year holiday with as little worry as possible.”
