[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Sacheon Love Gift Certificate, one of the key pledges of Park Dong-sik, the mayor of Sacheon City, Gyeongnam Province in the 8th local government, is being sold smoothly with great interest and expectations from citizens.
According to the city on the 13th, as of the 11th, the Sacheon Love Gift Certificate shows a sales rate of about 10%, with 331 million KRW in paper gift certificates and 665 million KRW in mobile gift certificates, totaling 996 million KRW.
The high sales rate is believed to be due to the 10% discount benefit provided to buyers as well as the fact that franchise stores are not burdened with card fees.
Park Dong-sik, mayor of Sacheon City, Gyeongnam, made the first purchase of Sacheon Love Gift Certificates.
In fact, franchise stores such as local restaurants, academies, hospitals and clinics, pharmacies, and service industries can use the gift certificates like cash at a 10% discounted amount. However, large and semi-large stores, entertainment and nightclubs, and gambling establishments are excluded from use.
Additionally, citizens' perception that using local alley markets contributes to the recovery of the regional economy along with a decrease in consumption in other areas also greatly influences the sales rate.
In particular, the preference for purchasing gift certificates has increased as many franchise stores across various industries have been secured, making it convenient to use.
As of the 12th, there are 4,111 registered franchise stores, and the city plans to secure more for user convenience. Small business owners who wish to register as franchise stores can apply through the city’s Regional Economy Division or the Eup/Myeon/Dong Administrative Welfare Centers.
Moreover, the mobile gift certificates of Sacheon Love Gift Certificate continue to soar in popularity, receiving good responses especially among the MZ generation and young mothers.
Earlier, on the 10th, the city began issuing Sacheon Love Gift Certificates worth 10 billion KRW (5 billion KRW in paper certificates and 5 billion KRW in mobile certificates) to stabilize the management of small businesses and promote a virtuous cycle in the local economy.
Each month, citizens can purchase up to 200,000 KRW in paper gift certificates and 200,000 KRW in mobile gift certificates. The minimum age for purchasing paper gift certificates is 19 years old, and for mobile gift certificates, it is 14 years old.
A city official stated, “We will do our best to reduce side effects and trial and error by carefully analyzing cases from other cities and counties, and to ensure the virtuous cycle effect of the local economy appears. We urge citizens who have not yet purchased the Sacheon Love Gift Certificate to hurry up in time for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.”
