On the 12th, the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that Chinese travelers are rushing to Hong Kong to get the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. On the 8th, Hong Kong and China resumed quarantine-free travel for the first time in three years since the COVID-19 pandemic.
SCMP stated, "This week, long lines of Chinese nationals waiting to receive messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines formed in front of hospitals in Hong Kong," adding, "They said the cost of vaccination was not an issue."
A representative from CHKMED hospital in Tsim Sha Tsui told SCMP, "After the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year), when people travel to meet their families, vaccine demand will increase," and predicted, "After the Spring Festival, 200 to 300 people from China will visit our hospital daily to receive mRNA vaccines."
Fosun Pharma in China announced that since it began accepting online reservations for booster shots for Chinese residents in Hong Kong on the 6th, it has received over 10,000 inquiries. In Hong Kong, the Fosun-BioNTech vaccine, jointly developed by Pfizer and BioNTech, is supplied through Fosun Pharma.
