[Asia Economy Reporter Han Yeju] Dyson's new cordless vacuum cleaner 'Gen5 Detect,' which focuses on the essence that 'cleaning must be done well.' This product, launched first in Korea before anywhere else in the world, has received positive reviews from consumers for addressing all the drawbacks that were considered weaknesses of previous Dyson cordless vacuum cleaners. To personally verify the upgraded performance, functionality, and newly improved user interface, I used the Dyson Gen5 Detect for three days.

First, when I initially held the product, I felt that the grip on the handle was very comfortable. It was noticeable that the part where it contacts the main body used a soft PU material, giving a pleasant feel. I also liked that the trademark 'trigger' style power switch of Dyson cordless vacuum cleaners was changed to a button format. Previously, Dyson products required continuously pulling the trigger while operating, which caused discomfort to the fingers and wrists.

Above all, the most impressive feature was the powerful suction. Dyson proudly claims it has the strongest suction power among all cordless vacuum cleaners they have released so far. In particular, the hyper-dimension motor defined as the '5th generation motor' rotates at 135,000 RPM (revolutions per minute), which is 8% faster than the previous V15 Detect engine, to suck in dust. In practice, I was able to see a thick layer of fine dust quickly accumulating in the dustbin. Additionally, Dyson explained that by applying 'HEPA filtration' technology, it can capture 99.99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns, which is at the level of invisible virus particles.

The motor's heat generation was also reduced. This is because it is equipped with a patented cooling turbulator to prevent the case from overheating. Even after moving around every corner of the house while using the vacuum, I did not feel the product getting hot at all.

Along with the motor, the battery performance was improved, allowing continuous use for up to 70 minutes, about 10 minutes longer than the previous model, despite the stronger suction power. This solves the chronic problem of 'short usage time' common to cordless vacuum cleaners. The dustbin was also made larger, making it more convenient for long-term use.

The function that measures and displays the size and amount of dust particles in real-time on the vacuum handle was also useful. The LCD screen showed fine dust, small dust, medium dust, and large dust separately, and a bar graph moved to indicate the amount of dust. It informed whether cleaning was necessary by showing which types of dust were prevalent in the current cleaning environment, enabling effective cleaning. In automatic mode, the suction power increased automatically depending on the dust amount, which was convenient. After cleaning, it displayed information about the dust collected, allowing users to check the cleaning performance.

The 'Fluffy Optic Cleaner Head,' which allows users to easily check dust on the floor from their perspective, is also noteworthy. The illumination function of this head uses a green laser projected from the vacuum head to make dust more visible, helping to detect dust over a much wider area than before and ensuring that even the smallest dust particles are not missed. It was easy to clean by visually confirming dust in hard-to-see places such as under sofas or tables.

However, the weight was a downside. The weight increased from 3 kg in the previous model to 3.5 kg due to the improved motor performance. The product length also increased, which may make it inconvenient for consumers who frequently use the vacuum cleaner to operate. Relatively loud noise is another aspect that needs improvement.
