[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Jong-min] Jeff Beck, revered as a 'master' of rock guitar since the 1960s, has passed away at the age of 78.

According to foreign media including The Guardian, Beck's official Twitter announced on the 11th (local time) that he died from bacterial meningitis.

Beck gained recognition in the 1960s as a member of the rock band The Yardbirds, and later showcased his most innovative skills in rock guitar through the Jeff Beck Group and his solo career.

Although Beck had less commercial success compared to Eric Clapton (Cream) and Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), who were also known as the three great guitarists, he is praised for leading changes in guitar playing across various genres such as heavy metal, jazz rock, and punk.

His biggest hit was his first solo album Blow by Blow. The track "Cause We've Ended as a Lover" from this album continues to be respected by aspiring guitarists and rock enthusiasts alike. Beck was nominated for Best Rock Performance at this year's Grammy Awards for "Patient Number 9," a collaboration with Ozzy Osbourne. He won eight Grammy Awards throughout his career.

Musicians expressed their sorrow. Page said, "Jeff's imagination was limitless," and Rolling Stones vocalist Mick Jagger stated, "We have lost one of the world's greatest guitar players."
