Court: "Risk of Evidence Tampering"... Warrant Denied for Director-General Level Official
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] A mid-level official at the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) has been arrested on suspicion of interfering in the re-approval review process of the comprehensive programming channel Chosun Broadcasting Co., Ltd. (TV Chosun).
Judge Moon Kyunghoon of the Seoul Northern District Court, who is in charge of warrants, conducted a pre-arrest detention hearing for KCC official Cha on the 11th and issued an arrest warrant, stating, "There is evidence supporting the major charges, and considering the attitude during the audit and investigation stages, there is a concern about evidence tampering."
Regarding Director Yang, the warrant was dismissed, with the court stating, "At this stage, it is difficult to recognize grounds and reasonableness for detention."
The Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office requested arrest warrants for those who worked in the broadcasting policy department during the 2020 re-approval review of comprehensive programming channels, on charges of obstruction of business. They allegedly informed the review committee of TV Chosun's final evaluation score exceeding the re-approval criteria and demanded modifications to the score sheet.
