[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Park Dong-sik, mayor of Sacheon City, Gyeongnam, continues his field-centered livelihood and communication efforts in the Year of the Rabbit 2023.

Following his direct participation in environmental cleanup activities on the 3rd, Mayor Park also engaged in trash collection with local sanitation workers at 7 a.m. on the 11th, demonstrating his field-centered approach to livelihood and communication.

On this day, Mayor Park, together with one sanitation worker, collected volume-based waste bags for about an hour from in front of Sinjin Tower Mansion to Deokjin Bom Apartment, Sinjin 1st Apartment, Sinjin Apartment, and Jeonwon Mansion.

Despite the cold weather, he worked up a sweat cleaning the streets by picking up various trash such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes scattered throughout the city.

Before collecting household waste, Mayor Park held a breakfast meeting with sanitation workers at a local restaurant to listen to their difficulties and concerns. At this meeting, the sanitation workers requested an increase in their clothing allowance, which Mayor Park readily accepted.

This field administration was arranged to understand the hardships of sanitation workers, encourage their efforts, and listen to their on-site difficulties.

It also conveyed messages promoting the habitual practice of waste separation, recycling, and the use of standardized bags.

The sanitation workers suggested, “Although the treatment of sanitation workers has improved significantly so far, we ask for continuous improvement and attention in the future.”

Mayor Park said, “It was a meaningful time to hear firsthand about the difficulties and suggestions from the field, and by experiencing the working environment of sanitation workers, I came to understand the conditions of on-site work.”

He added, “Thanks to the sanitation workers who quietly do their best in their positions, we can greet the morning in a clean and pleasant environment. I will strive to find ways to improve working conditions.”
