Police Begin Investigation into LG Uplus Customer Information Leak

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 11th that it has been assigned the LG Uplus customer personal information leak case and has started an investigation.


LG Uplus announced through its official website the day before that the personal information of approximately 180,000 customers was leaked.


The leaked information varies for each individual. It included names, dates of birth, and phone numbers. It was reported that financial information related to bill payments was not leaked.


LG Uplus recognized the fact that customer information was leaked on the 2nd. The next day, it requested an investigation from the Cyber Crime Reporting System (ECRM) to the Cyber Investigation Bureau of the National Police Agency and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).


A police official said, "We received the case yesterday and are reviewing it."
