[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] The Personal Information Protection Commission announced on the 11th that it has launched a fact-finding investigation to determine whether LG Uplus violated the Personal Information Protection Act.
LG Uplus confirmed the leakage of personal information of approximately 180,000 customers. The leaked information varies by individual but includes names, dates of birth, and phone numbers.
The Personal Information Protection Commission conducted an on-site investigation at LG Uplus's Sangam office building on the same day.
The commission plans to investigate whether there were violations of the Personal Information Protection Act, including the cause of the data leak, the scale of the leak, and compliance with safety measures. If violations are confirmed, strict administrative actions will be taken, and LG Uplus's measures to prevent recurrence will be reviewed.
