Animal Cruelty as a Precursor to Heinous Crimes... Lee Gi-young Also Caught in Cat Harassment Video

Yoo Young-cheol, Kang Ho-soon, and Lee Young-hak Also Have Animal Abuse Records
"Animal Abuse Acts Must Be Severely Punished and Prevented from Raising Animals"

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] As animal abuse crimes are known to be precursors to heinous crimes, public opinion is growing stronger that punishments for animal abusers should be further strengthened.

According to the Chuncheon Police Station in Gangwon on the 11th, a woman in her 20s who adopted eight puppies, abused them, and caused their deaths was arrested the day before. The woman, who received the young puppies and abused them in cruel ways such as kicking and throwing them, even filming the process, stated that the reason for the abuse was simply for fun.

Experts diagnose animal abuse as a precursor to heinous crimes such as serial murder. The aggression and violent behavior initially directed at animals can at any time be directed toward humans.

In fact, serial killer Yoo Young-chul, who shocked the public, practiced murder on large dogs, and Kang Ho-soon was revealed to have cruelly killed dogs he raised while running a dog farm. Lee Young-hak, known as the "Tooth Dad," who lured and murdered his daughter's friend and abandoned the body, also killed six dogs by beating them with a blunt object.

Lee Ki-young, who was recently sent to the prosecution on charges of murdering a taxi driver and his cohabiting partner and disposing of the bodies, was also known to have filmed a video of him tormenting a cat by drowning it in a swimming pool in the past. In the released video, Lee Ki-young put a leash on the cat and dunked it into the pool. When the cat struggled to get out, he caught it and dunked it again, laughing as if enjoying it.

Professor Oh Yoon-sung of the Department of Police Administration at Soonchunhyang University pointed out that Lee Ki-young’s psychopathic tendencies are evident in the cat abuse video. In a media interview, Professor Oh said, "One of the first characteristics of a psychopath is animal abuse," adding, "The sight of him laughing while tormenting the cat like that is truly horrifying." Generally, cats are known to dislike water, and being forcibly submerged in pool water likely caused extreme stress.

Accordingly, public opinion is rising to strongly punish animal abuse acts and to prevent abusers from raising animals. According to the Animal Welfare Research Institute Aware on the 5th, a survey conducted on 2,000 adult men and women nationwide showed that 98% of all respondents answered that the ownership rights of abused animals by animal abusers should be restricted. Additionally, 99% of respondents agreed to restrict animal abusers from raising animals to prevent recurrence of animal abuse.
