[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Seoul City announced on the 11th that it will operate bus number 8146, a dawn-exclusive customized bus, on the route with many early morning workers boarding, from Sanggye-dong to Gangnam Station, to improve the arduous commute of workers.

Bus number 146 has many first-ride passengers, and even before, three buses departed simultaneously at 4:05 AM (the first bus). On the 2nd, when the Prime Minister boarded, citizens who used the first bus earnestly requested to move the first bus time earlier, prompting consideration of the introduction.

Bus number 8146 is a customized bus operating specifically during dawn hours, starting 15 minutes earlier than the first bus time of number 146 (4:05 AM), operating from 3:50 AM, with a total of three runs on weekdays (3:50 AM, 3:55 AM, 4:00 AM).

To ensure that the workload of existing bus drivers on route 146 does not increase or their start times are not moved earlier, a separate new driver was hired for the 8146 customized bus through negotiations between the transportation company and labor union.

Seoul City completed the business improvement order procedure for operating route 8146 on Tuesday, January 10th, and the bus will start running from the first bus on Monday, January 16th.

Yoon Jong-jang, Director of Urban Transportation at Seoul City, said, “By using bus number 8146, early commuters such as janitors and security guards working in office buildings in the Gangnam business district will be able to start work early without worrying about being late.” He added, “We will continue to strive to provide transportation services appropriately according to citizens’ needs.”
