[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Yoon Byung-tae) announced on the 11th that it will accept applications for the ‘Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance’ until the 14th of next month.
Implemented since 2020, the Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance is a program that provides local currency worth a total of 600,000 KRW to farmers and fishermen to address rural issues such as population decline and aging, promote the public interest functions of agriculture and fisheries, and support sustainable development.
In the first year of the system’s introduction in 2020, the city paid 7.959 billion KRW to 13,265 farmers, 8.139 billion KRW to 13,565 farmers in 2021, and 8.425 billion KRW to 14,041 farmers in 2022 as the public interest allowance.
Applicants must be farmers or fishermen who are the heads of farming or fishing households registered in the agricultural and fishery management information system, who have continuously resided in the city and engaged in agriculture or fisheries since before January 1, 2022.
However, those excluded from eligibility include individuals with comprehensive income from non-agricultural or fishery sources exceeding 37 million KRW, those who have fraudulently received subsidies such as direct payments, public officials or employees of public institutions, those with disciplinary records under the Agricultural Land Act, Mountainous Area Management Act, Livestock Epidemic Prevention Act, or Fisheries Act, and cases where the head of the household and actual residents have separated households while living together.
In particular, recipients of welfare benefits such as basic livelihood security must carefully check before applying to avoid reduction or loss of welfare payments.
After the application deadline, the city plans to verify eligibility through the Public Interest Allowance Committee and pay the full amount of 600,000 KRW at once in the form of Naju Sarang gift certificates in April.
