[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Mercury, a specialized information and communication equipment company, announced on the 11th that it has signed a revised contract to additionally supply the optical signal conversion unit, a transmission device for the Military Satellite Communication System-II, with Hanwha Systems. The revised contract amount is a total of 16.9 billion KRW, an increase of 104% from the 8.3 billion KRW contract amount in 2021.
The Military Satellite Communication System-II project is a system project that supports advanced (secure) communications in future battlefield environments through broadband data and voice communication systems based on the latest military satellites. Mercury is participating in the system development project of the Military Satellite Communication System-II led by Hanwha Systems until 2024 and has been actively supplying the optical signal conversion unit and signal conversion unit since last year.
Since 2000, Mercury has supplied and maintained satellite communication equipment for the Navy’s Maritime Operation Satellite Communication System (MOSCOS) and, based on over 20 years of experience in military satellite communication projects, is currently leading participation in new Maritime Operation Satellite Communication System (MOSCOS) performance measurement projects by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.
A Mercury official stated, “Based on our supply performance in military satellite projects so far, we are actively pursuing participation not only in defense projects but also in satellite projects such as low Earth orbit satellite communications,” adding, “We are also actively promoting participation in military smart projects that will play a leading role on the battlefield.”
