Gokseong-gun, Jeonnam-style Youth Village 'Dukkeobi Village' Takes Its First Leap

Recruiting for the 2nd Term of Lively Ddukkeobi Village One-Month Stay

[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Jeonnam Gokseong-gun (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that ‘Dukkeobi Village’ is starting to run.

Dukkeobi Village, operated by the cultural creation center Donghaeng (CEO Jeon Min-su), which was selected for the Jeonnam-type Youth Village Creation Contest Project, has completed all preparations and officially started a one-month living experience.

The ‘Jeonnam-type Youth Village Creation’ program involves youth directly creating spaces and programs linked to local specialized industries to revitalize the region.

The project is supported with a budget of 300 million KRW, and five locations in Jeonnam were selected.

Gokseong-gun’s ‘Dukkeobi Village’ is inspired by the traditional children’s song “Dukkeopa, Dukkeopa. Heonjip julge saejip dao” (“Toad, toad. I’ll give you an old house, give me a new house”).

It expresses the intention that incoming youth will directly design and construct vacant houses in the aging rural village, transforming them into new spaces.

Currently, the first group of Dukkeobi Village participants are residing in Gokseong from the 4th to the 25th, experiencing the one-month living program.

The group consists of youth with diverse occupations such as designers, media producers, and youth center managers.

Dukkeobi Village’s first group is conducting a ‘Rural Understanding Program’ to help youth discover the charm of Gokseong and ‘Dukkeobi Kindergarten,’ where they can learn self-interior skills.

For youth hoping to move to the countryside, the program plans to operate ‘Dukkeobi Laboratory,’ which supports acquiring architectural technology-related certifications.

Along with the start of Dukkeobi Village’s first group, recruitment for the second group is also underway.

The application period is from January 6 to January 23, and the second group’s program will run from February 1 to 24.

A Gokseong-gun official said, “We hope that youth can discover special values and new opportunities in Dukkeobi Village. We ask for much interest in the recruitment for Dukkeobi Village’s second group as well.”
