"Collaboration Models Must Be Established Within the Mobility Value Chain"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] At the 'World's Largest Electronics and IT Exhibition CES 2023,' big tech companies such as Amazon, Microsoft (MS), and Google are breaking down the boundaries of the automotive industry value chain.
According to the report "Future ICT Industry Seen Through CES 2023" published by Samjong KPMG on the 11th, major global big tech companies opened booths in the mobility zone where automotive companies gather at CES 2023, signaling a full-scale expansion into the mobility business.
Among the participating companies, nearly 10%, about 300 companies, were automotive-related, and CES 2023 saw an expansion of exhibitions related to mobility companies and related businesses. Google set up an Android Auto experience space where vehicles can be controlled and driven via voice commands. MS presented the future of vehicle purchase using advanced driver assistance systems and metaverse-based vehicle software. Amazon unveiled Amazon for Automotive, a technology related to autonomous driving, and introduced its AI-based Alexa service.
In addition, participation from automakers and automotive parts companies was also prominent. Stellantis explained its vision for the mobility era in a keynote speech and unveiled the Ram 1500 Revolution concept, an electric pickup truck from Stellantis' automotive brand Ram, for the first time. French automotive parts company Valeo revealed the algorithm Pantomime, which predicts the movements of road users, and Korean automotive parts company HL Mando exhibited the Electric Corner Module, which operates with a four-wheel independent control system enabling parallel parking and on-the-spot U-turns, developed by its autonomous driving specialized subsidiary HL Clemoove.
According to Samjong KPMG’s analysis of CES 2023 keywords through Google Trends, Asia showed particularly high interest, including China ranked first, South Korea ranked third, and Hong Kong ranked eighth. Samsung was identified as the most searched company related to CES. Sony, AMD, ASUS, LG, NVIDIA, and BMW also appeared in the top 10 search keywords.
Meanwhile, Samjong KPMG presented the main trends of CES 2023 as ▲Mobility ▲Robotics & AI ▲Hyperconnected Smart Home ▲Metaverse & Web 3.0 ▲Digital Healthcare ▲Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) & Greentech ▲Spacetech ▲Foodtech ▲Startups.
Robotics integrated with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) that interacts with humans and assists human tasks emerged as a trend. Korean robotics company Supernova introduced the AI modular robotic arm HUENIT, which can perform functions such as extracting coffee like a barista and supporting household chores like cooking.
The hyperconnected smart home, where numerous everyday products are integrated and linked to assist user convenience and provide seamless consumer experiences, also attracted attention. Samsung Electronics introduced the process of how objects connect and perform functions across daily life areas such as living, dining, work, and leisure under the theme "Opening the Hyperconnected Era with Customized Experiences."
Wi Seung-hoon, Vice President and Automotive Industry Leader at Samjong KPMG, explained, "At CES 2023, attempts stood out where big tech companies expanded into mobility businesses, mobility companies into AI businesses, and home appliances, devices, and consumer goods companies into robotics, AI, and Web 3.0 businesses.
