Special Iron Plate Aromatic Oil in Rich Sagol Broth
CU announced on the 11th that it will launch a meat Jjamppong cup ramen featuring Chinese-style recipes by Baek Jong-won, CEO of The Born Korea.
The meat Jjamppong cup ramen is a product that delivers the spicy flavor unique to meat Jjamppong by infusing a rich beef bone broth with a smoky aroma. To replicate the distinctive smoky scent of Chinese-style Jjamppong, Baek Jong-won's special iron plate flavored oil was added to enhance the umami taste. Additionally, dried beef, squid flakes, cabbage, and green onions were included as toppings, and potato starch was added to the noodles to emphasize a chewy texture.
Starting with this product launch, there are plans to broadly expand the categories of collaborative products with Baek Jong-won. Since 2015, CU has partnered with Baek Jong-won to release various products. Over the past seven years, the number of Baek Jong-won’s ready-to-eat products launched by CU has reached around 200, with cumulative sales exceeding 350 million units.
A BGF Retail official stated, “We plan to continuously introduce premium ramen with improved cost-effectiveness to uphold the legendary reputation of Baek Jong-won’s lunchboxes, now a staple in convenience store ready meals,” adding, “In this era of high prices, CU will focus more on developing differentiated meal options to serve as an excellent alternative.”
