Proactively Responding to Diverse Resident Needs, Acting as Urban Planners to Secure Momentum for Urban Development Projects
Establishing Communication Channels Between Public and Private Sectors, Developing Solutions to Redevelopment and Reconstruction Complaints, Efficiently Reflecting Residents' Requests in District Administration
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gijae · photo) announced that it will establish the ‘Urban Development Promotion Team’ directly under the district mayor to actively support and accelerate the long-awaited reconstruction and redevelopment projects, and will begin full-scale operation from the 11th.
The newly launched Urban Development Promotion Team is a specialized administrative organization for urban development, consisting of a task force (TF) of four members including an external expert as the head and district employees.
In particular, the district gained momentum for reconstruction last November when the Mokdong Apartment District Unit Plan passed the Seoul city review and the rapid integrated planning for Mokdong Complex 6 was selected. Additionally, following the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s revised safety inspection standards for reconstruction, which came into effect on the 5th, seven complexes received safety inspection reconstruction judgments, enabling the full-scale promotion of reconstruction projects.
In response, a district official explained, “The Urban Development Promotion Team will vigorously lead the district’s urban development efforts and serve as a driving force to faithfully implement the redevelopment and reconstruction projects, which are Mayor Lee’s campaign promises.”
The Urban Development Promotion Team oversees all urban development projects in Yangcheon-gu, supports organic cooperation between redevelopment and reconstruction departments, and exchanges information and holds consultations with related organizations such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Seoul City. In particular, to reduce unnecessary conflicts with residents, it has strengthened its role as a communication channel between the public and private sectors and proactively developed solutions to complaints related to redevelopment and reconstruction within the district.
Mayor Lee Gijae said, “Just as there are welfare planners in the welfare sector, urban planners with expertise are needed in reconstruction and redevelopment to guide related parties and residents. The Urban Development Promotion Team will proactively respond to the increasing demands of residents and become a driving force leading urban development projects.”
Meanwhile, Na Hyunnam, appointed as the head of the Urban Development Promotion Team, is an expert with nearly 30 years of experience in construction development and urban maintenance, majoring in urban engineering. Working in good harmony with Mayor Lee, who also has expertise, it is expected to create great synergy for Yangcheon-gu’s urban development projects in the future.
