[Asia Economy Reporter Noh Kyung-jo] It has been reported that Russia and Belarus are intensifying their joint military exercises.
According to major foreign media, on the 8th (local time), the Belarus Ministry of Defense announced through its own TV channel that the joint forces of the two countries are strengthening military training focused on urban warfare.
The Belarus Ministry of Defense stated, "The intensity of the joint military exercises is increasing," adding, "Our goal is to be prepared to fight against invading forces on all fronts."
Since October last year, Belarus has allowed Russian troops to be stationed near its border and has conducted joint exercises. Currently, about 9,000 Russian troops are stationed in the Belarus border area.
Earlier, in February last year, when Russia invaded Ukraine, Belarus provided a route for entry. This has led to ongoing speculation that Belarus might be participating in the Ukraine war.
Belarus denies the participation rumors. Military experts also predict that Belarus will not directly play the participation card that would invite Western economic sanctions.
