[Asia Economy Reporter Noh Kyung-jo] Malaysia has decided to conduct separate quarantine inspections for arrivals from China to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

According to local media The Star on the 10th, the Malaysian Ministry of Health announced in a press briefing that "a 'special lane' will be operated at the international arrivals area to monitor tourists arriving from China."

Earlier, the Malaysian government tightened entry regulations after China lifted travel restrictions on its citizens. Authorities conduct fever checks on all arrivals, and if infection is suspected, COVID-19 tests are administered. Those who test positive are either quarantined or treated depending on the severity of their symptoms.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated, "We are strengthening entry restrictions for foreigners, but we will not discriminate against any country."

However, as public demand grew to strengthen regulations on arrivals from China due to concerns over COVID-19 spread, authorities decided to separate and monitor Chinese tourists.

Authorities reported that since reopening the border on the 8th, 4,096 people have entered from China, and no positive cases have been confirmed yet.
