[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Changwon Maritime Police Station in Gyeongnam will launch an intensive crackdown on marine crimes in preparation for the Lunar New Year holiday until the 27th.
Changwon Maritime Police announced on the 10th that, ahead of the holiday, they have organized dedicated teams for high-risk ports and harbors to prevent crimes that harm the livelihoods of ordinary citizens, and will conduct crackdowns in coordination with land operations.
▲ Illegal diving fishing ▲ Unauthorized gillnet fishing ▲ Illegal cod trap fishing ▲ Crackdown on false labeling of seafood origin and distribution of substandard seafood products ▲ Human rights violations of marine workers, arrest of wanted persons due to increased movement ▲ Detection of safety violations such as overloading and drunk operation on passenger ships and other vessels used by many people.
The Maritime Police plan to strictly handle acts that infringe on the livelihoods of ordinary citizens or devastate marine fishery resources according to law and principles.
Considering the economic difficulties caused by COVID-19, minor livelihood-related crimes without victims or small-scale crimes will mainly be guided on-site.
A Changwon Maritime Police official said, “If you discover crimes that infringe on people’s livelihoods, please actively report them,” and added, “We will respond firmly to marine crimes that harm the livelihoods of ordinary citizens.”
