Reportedly delivered to Chief Secretary Kim Dae-gi
Full tension over the party convention conveyed
Steps toward running for party leader... seems to hold back comments
[Asia Economy Reporters Hyunju Lee and Gimin Lee] It has been reported that Na Kyung-won, Vice Chair of the Low Birthrate and Aging Society Committee, expressed her intention to resign from her vice chair position on the 10th, but the Blue House dismissed this, saying "We have heard nothing," revealing accumulated tensions.
On the same day, Vice Chair Na reportedly conveyed her resignation to President Yoon Seok-yeol through Kim Dae-gi, Chief Secretary of the Blue House, stating, "I am expressing my intention to resign as I have caused concern to the President."
However, during a briefing that day, the Blue House stated, "From our side, we have heard nothing about Vice Chair Na Kyung-won's resignation."
Vice Chair Na and the Blue House have been engaged in a standoff over whether she would run in the party convention. In particular, when Vice Chair Na proposed a low birthrate policy to forgive loans upon childbirth during a meeting with reporters covering the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Blue House suggested the possibility of dismissal, claiming that the policy had not been pre-discussed, which further intensified the controversy.
In response, it appears that Vice Chair Na has decided to first resign from her political appointment, to which President Yoon had appointed her. Some quarters criticized the Blue House for pushing Vice Chair Na too hard.
Vice Chair Na is reportedly still withholding comments regarding her candidacy for party leader.
