Yeonggwang-gun, Up to 20% Discount on Water Supply Charges for Tap Water Conservation

[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, has decided to promote a reduction of up to 20% in water supply charges if residents save tap water.

According to the county on the 10th, last year's rainfall in the county was 57% (730mm) of the average, an unprecedented severe drought, and the reservoir rate of major water sources in the area is at 39.3%. If the drought continues until this spring, water supply restrictions will be inevitable.

The county plans to encourage voluntary water-saving practices among residents by reducing water charges by 10% for users who reduce water usage by less than 20% compared to the previous year, and by 20% for users who reduce usage by 20% or more. The implementation period will start next month and apply to the charges billed in June.

There will be no separate application process, and the reduction will be applied uniformly to eligible users. If the drought continues, the reduction period will be extended.

Kang Museong, head of the Water and Sewage Business Office, said, "We are making every effort to develop alternative water sources such as groundwater well development and agricultural water use in preparation for the drought." He added, "We also plan to continue promotional activities on practical water-saving methods in daily life, such as placing a 1.8L water bottle in the toilet tank (20% savings), cutting shower time in half (50% savings), and using a cup when brushing teeth (70% savings)."
