[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The Ministry of Education and the Korea Youth Policy Institute will hold the 'Digital Media Literacy Education Student Participation Group Performance Sharing Event' on the 11th at Seoul Dragon City in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
This event was organized to share the experiences and achievements of 49 student participation groups (student clubs) that explored the proper use of digital media last year.
Among the student participation groups, three teams received the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Award: 'Hyohang Geumjjok-i' (Gyeonggi Hyohang Elementary), which discussed fake news and cyber verbal abuse and conducted a digital etiquette campaign; 'Pestallogic' (Gyeonggi Haneulbit Middle), which explored YouTube algorithms through digital literacy brainstorming; and 'Fact of 23 bros' (Gyeonggi Suseong High), which emphasized the importance of fact-checking in fake news.
Additionally, six teams that researched proper media usage methods and proposed improvements for school digital media education received the Korea Youth Policy Institute Director's Award.
The Ministry of Education plans to implement the achievements of the student participation groups in a virtual exhibition space so that students who could not attend the event can also refer to them.
Ko Young-jong, the Ministry of Education's Chief Education Support Officer, stated, "We will promote policies together with metropolitan and provincial offices of education and related ministries so that students can naturally develop digital media literacy at school and home."
