[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Shim Min, the former governor of Imsil County, Jeonbuk, donated the ‘Hometown Love Donation’ to 16 cities and counties including those in the province on the 9th.
Shim Min, who is serving as the first chairman of the Jeollabuk-do Mayors and Governors Association in the 8th elected term, visited the NongHyup Bank Imsil County Office branch that day and personally donated 100,000 won each to sister local governments including 13 cities and counties in Jeollabuk-do, Gangseo-gu in Seoul, Jin-gu in Busan, and Nam-gu in Gwangju.
This donation was made to encourage active participation from residents of the province, expatriates, and sister city residents following the implementation of the Hometown Love Donation system this year.
Governor Shim said, “I participated in the donation hoping that many people will take an interest in the Hometown Love Donation system,” adding, “As the system, which will be a driving force for responding to local extinction through supplementing insufficient local finances and revitalizing the regional economy, is now fully implemented, I will do my best to ensure the successful establishment of this system.”
The Hometown Love Donation system allows individuals to donate up to 5 million won annually to local governments (basic or metropolitan) other than their registered address.
Donors can receive local agricultural specialty products as thank-you gifts within 30% of the donation amount, receive a full tax deduction for donations up to 100,000 won, and a 16.5% tax credit on the amount exceeding 100,000 won.
Donations can be made through Hometown Love e-um or any NongHyup branch nationwide.
The county has made thorough preparations for the successful establishment of the Hometown Love Donation system, including enacting ordinances, selecting thank-you gifts, and conducting surveys.
As a result, 19 thank-you gift items were selected, and suppliers for 9 items including cheese, yogurt, red pepper powder, and rice were chosen and registered in the Hometown Love e-um system.
In particular, cheese and yogurt made using Imsil cheese are expected to be highly competitive and popular nationwide as differentiated thank-you gifts reflecting the region’s characteristics.
The county plans to continue leading the activation of the Hometown Love Donation system by discovering thank-you gifts that can represent Imsil and promoting fund projects that resonate with Imsil residents and donors.
