[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] A man in his 60s, suspected of murdering a former coworker neighbor and committing arson, was apprehended by the police.

On the 9th, the Jungnang Police Station in Seoul announced that they had urgently arrested and were investigating Mr. A (62) on charges including murder.

According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of killing the victim, Mr. B, a former coworker, by striking him with a blunt weapon around 9 p.m. the previous day. The incident occurred at Mr. B’s residence in Mangwoo-dong, Jungnang-gu, Seoul, where they were having a conversation together. The crime was reportedly committed because "the victim was allegedly harming his health by mixing drugs into food and did not take his side during conversations." Since February last year, Mr. A and Mr. B had been living in facing units on the first floor of a multi-family house.

After the crime, around 1:50 a.m. that day, Mr. A used an accelerant to burn clothes stained with blood at his residence. However, 10 minutes later, he voluntarily appeared at the Jungnang Police Station and confessed to the crime.

A police official stated, "We suspect Mr. A has a mental illness, so we plan to verify his reasons for leaving a taxi company where he previously worked, his psychiatric history, and request a hospital examination." He added, "We will apply for an arrest warrant within the day."
