Yangcheon-gu Places Love Rice Bins in All 18 Neighborhood Community Centers, Operating Until February to Support Neighbors in Need

Low-income, Vulnerable Groups, and Families in Crisis Can Use Up to 4kg of Rice Twice a Month Per Household

Encourages Participation in Donation Through Neighborhood Sharing Boxes for Lunar New Year Donation Campaign

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will place "Love Rice Bins" in all 18 neighborhood community centers to allow low-income and families in crisis within the district’s welfare blind spots to conveniently obtain rice at local community hubs, operating the program until February.

Listening to the desperate appeals of single-parent heads of households worried about their children's meals, the "Love Rice Bin" project, which began in 2011, has partnered with the social welfare corporation "Warm Heart" since its inception. To date, it has received rice donations worth approximately 270 million KRW, providing an inexhaustible supply of rice to 27,946 low-income residents.

This year, the district received donations of 750 bags of rice worth about 10 million KRW, which were distributed to the 18 neighborhood community centers and the program has officially started. Eligible users include low-income, vulnerable groups, and families in crisis who can use up to 4kg of rice twice a month per household.

Additionally, when distributing rice, the district conducts in-depth consultations with users to connect and provide customized welfare services necessary for stabilizing their lives beyond just rice support. They also aim to proactively identify hidden welfare blind spots by gathering information about other neighbors in crisis who may need help.

Ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, the district plans to promote the "2023 Lunar New Year Donation Sharing Campaign" to help neighbors in need. Residents wishing to participate can donate food items such as rice and ramen, as well as daily necessities like detergent and tissue, by placing them in sharing boxes set up at neighborhood community centers and designated local institutions.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, "If you know of neighbors struggling with the desperate reality of not having even one meal of rice for tomorrow, please inform your neighborhood community center at any time." He added, "Yangcheon-gu will continue to implement welfare policies that provide warm hope and courage to neighbors in need."
