Administrative and Public Institutions, Worksites and Construction Sites, Operation Hours Reduction Adjustment
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] Gyeongsangbuk-do has issued an emergency fine dust reduction measure for the second consecutive day on the 8th.
Gyeongbuk Province announced that it will implement the "High Concentration Fine Dust Emergency Reduction Measure" across the region from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the 8th, following the previous day.
The emergency reduction measure issued on the 8th was enacted due to the issuance of a fine particulate matter (PM2.5) advisory and the forecast of exceeding 50㎍/㎥ the next day, meeting the issuance criteria. This is in accordance with Article 7, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Special Act on the Reduction and Management of Fine Dust.
Following the emergency reduction measure issued on the 7th, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the 8th, not only workplaces and construction sites operated by administrative public institutions but also private workplaces and construction sites will participate in the emergency reduction measure.
Workplaces that emit large amounts of fine dust, such as steel plants, petrochemical and refining plants, and cement manufacturing plants, must take measures such as changing operating hours, adjusting operating rates, or improving efficiency.
Construction sites must implement dust suppression measures such as changing or adjusting construction hours, operating water spraying trucks, and covering with dustproof covers. Violations may result in fines of up to 2 million KRW.
In addition, guidance and crackdowns will be conducted targeting workplaces and construction sites to suppress fine dust generation.
Choi Young-sook, Director of the Environment, Forestry and Resources Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, said, "We plan to promote sector-specific reduction measures in close cooperation with city and county governments to prevent confusion at the frontline due to the implementation of the fine dust emergency reduction measure," and added, "We ask residents to pay attention to personal health management by refraining from going out and wearing masks."
