Songpa-gu to Create 43,000 Sustainable Jobs

Songpa-gu Comprehensive Job Policy Plan (2023~2026) Established and Announced, 279.4 Billion KRW Invested Over 4 Years

Consists of 12 Promotion Tasks and 47 Core Projects Across Four Major Strategies

▲ Dynamic Regional Economic Growth ▲ Strengthening Employment Safety Net Infrastructure ▲ Expanding Youth Employment ▲ Customized Job Matching

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) has established the ‘8th Term Songpa-gu Comprehensive Job Policy Plan (2023~2026)’ to revitalize the local economy through sustainable job creation.

Songpa is home to the largest population and the second highest number of businesses among Seoul’s autonomous districts (ranked 1st in population, 2nd in number of businesses), but its employment rate is 59.1%, ranking 9th among the 25 districts, with relatively low youth and female employment rates.

Furthermore, issues such as low birth rates, aging population, and changes in the employment environment due to the 4th Industrial Revolution have made it increasingly important to implement substantial job policies that consider social changes and regional characteristics.

Accordingly, the district plans to invest approximately 279.4 billion KRW over four years from 2023 to 2026 to build a job creation system and strengthen the employment safety net, aiming to create and provide about 43,000 sustainable jobs.

The ‘8th Term Comprehensive Job Policy Plan’ is composed of 12 promotion tasks and 47 core projects within four major strategies: ▲ Dynamic Regional Economic Growth ▲ Strengthening Employment Safety Net Infrastructure ▲ Supporting Expansion of Youth Employment ▲ Expanding Customized Job Matching.

First, by positioning ICT and MICE industries as new growth engines, the plan aims to revitalize the regional economy and support management innovation for small and medium enterprises and small business owners, thereby establishing a virtuous cycle that leads to the creation of quality jobs.

The district will also form a cooperative network among over 20 job facilities within the region to enhance synergy effects and build a job information network that integrates management of various job projects and information. Additionally, it plans to operate customized job matching days that provide one-on-one on-site interviews between recruiting companies and job seekers to expand hiring opportunities.

Moreover, the district will review and promote job support policies tailored to specific target groups. It expects to expand job participation opportunities and improve employment rates by providing appropriate employment support education and services for groups such as ▲ career-interrupted women ▲ young entrepreneurs and artists ▲ middle-aged and senior individuals seeking reemployment ▲ seniors wishing to engage in social activities.

In particular, to actively support social participation and contribution activities of retired middle-aged individuals with experience and expertise, the employment rate indicator for the middle-aged group will be managed separately.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “The full-scale start has begun to make Songpa a livable and prosperous city,” adding, “We will carry out meticulous administration to improve residents’ quality of life through sustainable job creation and establish a stable economic foundation.”
