[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Last year, school meals in Ulsan were provided with 'safe' ingredients.
The Ulsan City Health and Environment Research Institute announced on the 8th that all school meal ingredient safety tests conducted were found to be 'suitable.'
The tests were conducted over 280 cases from February to December last year, including 170 cases of seafood radiation tests and 110 cases of genetically modified food verification tests for soybean processed products. All test results were found to be suitable.
The Health and Environment Research Institute plans to expand the number of tests to 310 cases starting from the end of February this year to supply healthy meal ingredients to 245 elementary, middle, and high schools.
Choi Soo-mi, director of the Health and Environment Research Institute, said, "Since this year, parents' concerns about radioactive contamination of food ingredients have increased significantly due to the discharge of contaminated water from Fukushima, Japan," and added, "We will work closely with the Office of Education to ensure the safety of meal ingredients."
