Gurye-gun Expands Investment for Welfare of Socially Vulnerable Groups

[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yuk Miseok] Jeollanam-do Gurye-gun announced that it has allocated a budget of 54 billion KRW as an investment for "dense and robust welfare for the vulnerable," focusing on expanding welfare projects to support the lives of socially disadvantaged groups and reduce the caregiving burden on families.

This year, the social welfare sector accounts for 15.6% of Gurye-gun's main budget. New projects include ▲ support for daytime activity services for people with developmental disabilities ▲ activity support projects for elderly patients under 65 years old with senile diseases.

The budget for the disability activity support project has increased by 270 million KRW to about 1.7 billion KRW, raising the service hourly rate from 14,800 KRW to 15,570 KRW, a 5.2% increase, to support the daily lives of people with disabilities and reduce the burden on their families.

Additionally, from this year, support (compensation benefits) is also available for long-term care recipients and elderly patients under 65 years old with senile diseases who are outside the long-term care grading system.

In the disability employment project that helps the social life and economic power of people with disabilities, 57 people were selected in general, participatory, and welfare types and assigned to each institution to start working. The disability allowance was increased from 40,000 KRW to 60,000 KRW per month, and the disability pension was also increased by 4.7% compared to the previous year, securing a total budget of 1.6 billion KRW for support.

In addition, about 500 million KRW will be invested in disability medical expenses, support projects for families of children with disabilities, after-school activity services for people with developmental disabilities, and ensuring sufficient daytime activity hours for people with developmental disabilities (from 125 to 154 hours per month) through daytime activity service support.

Gurye-gun plans to provide 925 million KRW in veterans' honorary allowances and related budgets, and 100 million KRW will be supported for volunteer activity support projects.

They are also preparing to establish a sheltered workshop as part of a vocational rehabilitation project for social adaptation training for people with disabilities.

County Governor Kim Soon-ho said, "We will strive to create a dense welfare safety net that closely supports the daily lives and independent living of people with disabilities and the elderly and reduces the caregiving burden on families."
