Administrative Efforts Focused on Minimizing Merchant Damage Ahead of Seol
Creation of 60 Mongol-style Tent Stores, Merchant Association Office, and 150-Car Parking Lot
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Twenty-six days after starting relocation due to a fire, Damyang Changpyeong Market opened by installing containers and Mongolian tents on the site of the public parking lot opposite the market.
On the afternoon of the 5th, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do, held an opening ceremony for the Changpyeong temporary market and officially began welcoming customers, the county announced on the 6th.
About 500 people attended the opening ceremony, including County Governor Lee Byeongno, National Assemblyman Lee Gaeho, Damyang County Council Chairman Choi Yongman, the head of the Jeonnam branch of the Small Business Association, heads of institutions and social organizations, merchants, and residents.
The Changpyeong temporary market, opened ahead of the Lunar New Year shopping season, consists of 60 container and Mongolian tent stalls and a merchants' association office on a 8,593㎡ site.
The stalls house agricultural, livestock, and marine products, while street vendor-type stalls offer side dishes, vegetables, fruits, dried seafood, and marine products.
At the rear, a 5,365㎡ parking lot with a capacity of 150 vehicles was prepared to allow customers to purchase various items in one place.
After the opening ceremony, invited guests also participated in shopping events, and Damyang-gun plans to lead the revitalization of the traditional market by promoting department-specific shopping events for employees.
Governor Lee Byeongno said, “I thank the merchants for enduring the inconvenience during the establishment of the temporary market,” and added, “We will spare no effort to provide active support until the reconstruction project of Changpyeong Market is completed.”
