[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Se-ryeong] The successful candidates for the 2023 academic year general high schools in the equalization areas of Gyeongnam Province have been announced by school district.

The Gyeongnam Office of Education announced the list of successful candidates through the provincial Office of Education website at 10 a.m. on the 6th.

According to the Office of Education, the equalization areas in the province consist of 62 schools across 5 school districts.

Out of 13,974 recruits, 13,472 were within the quota, with 30 children of national merit recipients and 12 special admission candidates, totaling 42 outside the quota, all of whom received acceptance letters.

In School District 1, covering Seongsan and Uichang-gu in Changwon City, 19 schools recruited 3,696 students, with 3,503 applying within the quota, resulting in 193 unfilled spots.

School District 2, covering Masanhappo and Masanhoewon-gu in Changwon City, had 13 schools recruiting 2,548 students, with 2,468 applying within the quota, leaving 80 vacancies.

School District 3, Jinju City, had 11 schools recruiting 2,637 students, with 2,607 applying within the quota, showing 30 unfilled spots.

School District 4, Gimhae City, had 12 schools recruiting 2,788 students, with 2,575 applying within the quota, resulting in 213 vacancies.

School District 5, Geoje City, had 7 schools recruiting 2,305 students, with 2,277 applying within the quota, leaving 28 spots unfilled, thus not reaching full capacity.

The Office of Education stated that all school districts fell short of their quotas this year and will conduct additional recruitment later.

Assignment to equalization area high schools is done by dividing successful candidates by gender into 9 grades, then from the first to third rounds of lottery, candidates are randomly assigned by computer according to their preference order and the quota per grade for each school.

From the fourth round of lottery, schools with unfilled quotas conduct a random lottery and assignment again in order of preferred schools regardless of grade, and the assigned school cannot be changed.

The announcement of assigned schools for additional recruitment will be made on the 13th at 10 a.m. on the Gyeongnam Office of Education website.

On the 16th, candidates must visit their assigned schools to receive guidance on enrollment registration and complete registration by the 18th.

Additional recruitment for school districts and principal recommendation schools that did not fill their quotas will be held from the 11th to the 16th.

Applications for schools in underfilled districts can be submitted by visiting the Career Education Division on the 3rd floor of the provincial Office of Education headquarters, and applications for principal recommendation schools can be submitted directly to the respective high schools.

The status of additional recruitment for principal recommendation high schools can be found in the notices on the Gyeongnam Office of Education high school admission portal, and all information regarding additional recruitment is available on the newly established provincial Office of Education high school admission portal launched last December.

Hwang Heun-gwi, Director of the Career Education Division, said, “The application and school assignment for the equalization area admission process are conducted through the NEIS high school admission program, and all procedures are transparently and fairly managed under the deliberation of the High School Admission Lottery Management Committee.”
