Party Support Ratings: People Power Party 35%, Democratic Party 33%

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] A public opinion poll showed that President Yoon Seok-yeol's approval rating slightly increased at the beginning of the new year. Compared to the previous survey, it rose by 1 percentage point, and compared to the first week of December a month ago, it increased by 6 percentage points.

According to a survey conducted by Gallup Korea from the 3rd to the 5th of this month targeting 1,002 adult men and women nationwide, 37% gave a positive evaluation of President Yoon's job performance, while 54% gave a negative evaluation, the organization announced on the 6th.


Compared to the previous survey (December 16), the positive evaluation increased by 1 percentage point, and the negative evaluation decreased by 2 percentage points.


When asked the reasons for positive evaluations, respondents answered in order: 'Response to labor unions' (14%), 'Defense/Security' (10%), 'Fairness/Justice/Principles' (8%), 'Decisiveness/Drive/Perseverance' and 'Subjectivity/Conviction' (both 7%), 'Overall good performance' (5%), 'Labor reform', and 'Overcoming previous administration' (both 4%).


Those with negative evaluations cited reasons such as 'Autocratic/One-sided' (12%), 'Lack of experience/qualifications/Incompetence' (9%), 'Poor communication', 'Neglect of economy and people's livelihood', 'Overall poor performance' (all 8%), 'Lack of unity and cooperation' (7%), and 'Defense/Security' and 'Diplomacy' (both 4%).


Party support showed the People Power Party at 35%, down 1 percentage point, and the Democratic Party of Korea remained unchanged at 33%. The non-affiliated group accounted for 27%.


The margin of error for this survey is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. It was conducted via telephone interviews with 90% mobile and 10% landline calls, and the response rate was 9.6%.
