[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City issued a fine dust crisis alert at the ‘Interest’ level across the city from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the 6th and is implementing ‘Emergency Reduction Measures’ accordingly.

This follows the issuance of a fine dust advisory across Busan on the 5th, and the forecast that the concentration will exceed 50㎍/㎥ on January 6th, meeting the criteria for issuing the alert.

To suppress fine dust generation, the city is implementing measures to reduce fine dust emissions by adjusting operating rates and hours at construction sites and emission businesses, increasing the frequency of dust-cleaning vehicles on roads to reduce road dust, and expanding cleaning around schools and roads near industrial complexes.

In particular, from December 1st to March 31st, the ‘Seasonal Management Driving Restriction’ for Grade 5 emission vehicles is enforced throughout Busan, and violators will be fined 100,000 KRW. However, low-emission vehicles, vehicles for the disabled, and others are exempt from this restriction.

Park Hyung-jun, Mayor of Busan, stated, “Outdoor classes are prohibited for daycare centers, kindergartens, and elementary schools, and middle and high schools are requested to refrain from outdoor classes.”

He emphasized, “Citizens are urged to wear health masks when going out and to use public transportation. Elderly people, children, and those with respiratory or cardiovascular diseases should refrain from outdoor activities, and please follow hygiene rules such as washing hands and drinking water frequently.”
