Dong-A Pharmaceutical Enters Pilot Project for 'Converged Health Functional Foods'

Form Combining General Food and Health Functional Food

[Asia Economy Reporter Myunghwan Lee] Dong-A Pharmaceutical announced on the 6th that it will enter the regulatory sandbox pilot project for the 'converged health functional food' business.

The regulatory sandbox is a system that allows testing under certain conditions when there is no legal basis for a business using new technology or when applying existing regulations as they are is not appropriate. Based on the data collected during this process, regulations are improved. Once the business is approved, it will operate as a regulatory exemption pilot project for two years and can be conducted according to guidelines that include all safety and quality-related matters from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

The converged health functional food business is also one of the regulatory sandbox pilot projects, referring to the manufacturing and sale of products that package health functional foods in tablet and capsule forms into single doses combined with liquid-type general foods in an integrated package.

With its entry into the converged health functional food pilot project, Dong-A Pharmaceutical plans to introduce various health functional foods in converged packages that enhance consumer convenience.

According to the Korea Health Supplements Association, the domestic health functional food market reached 6.1429 trillion KRW last year. Previously, Dong-A Pharmaceutical launched the customizable health functional food brand 'Selfalex', premium multivitamin 'Orthomol Immune', children's health functional food 'MiniMax', and inner beauty brand 'Ailo'.

A Dong-A Pharmaceutical official stated, "We have continuously proposed customer-centered customized solutions so that customers can select products according to their gender, age, health condition, and lifestyle," adding, "We will strive to find safe materials and ingredients using Dong-A Pharmaceutical’s long-standing technological expertise and know-how, and to introduce products that satisfy consumers."
