[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A special inspection period for livestock products in preparation for the Lunar New Year holiday demand will be operated in Ulsan.
The Ulsan City Health and Environment Research Institute has designated the period from the 9th to the 19th as a concentrated inspection period for livestock products and plans to ensure smooth production and safety of meat expected to see increased demand during the Lunar New Year holiday.
The Research Institute reported that the average daily number of cattle slaughtered at two slaughterhouses in Ulsan last year was 41 heads, but during the Lunar New Year peak season, it increased to an average of 74 heads per day, and it is expected to increase significantly again this year.
The institute will strengthen live animal and carcass inspections and hygiene management at slaughterhouses by expanding the deployment of slaughter inspectors.
Slaughter inspections will also be conducted on the holiday, January 15, and the start time of operations will be flexibly adjusted according to changes in slaughter volume.
In particular, during this period, microbial testing of meat will be increased from once a week to twice a week, and residue testing for antibiotics and other substances will be expanded from 24 heads to 72 heads, focusing all efforts on ensuring the safety of meat.
Additionally, safety inspections will be conducted to prevent safety accidents caused by distributed livestock products such as ham and sausages, which see increased demand as holiday ritual offerings and gifts.
A representative from the Health and Environment Research Institute said, “We will do our best to supply livestock products that citizens can consume with confidence during the Lunar New Year holiday.”
