Gwangju Seobu Fire Station Urges Expansion of Fire Safety Facilities in Lodging Businesses

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Western Fire Station has urged the expansion of fire and gas-related safety facilities in lodging facilities (pensions, recreational forests, campsites, etc.) to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning accidents during the winter season.

In recreational facilities such as pensions and campsites where an unspecified number of people enter and exit, insufficient safety inspections of heating facilities can lead to large-scale casualties in the event of a fire.

Additionally, old communal exhaust ducts installed in lodging businesses and apartment complexes may allow exhaust gases to enter indoors due to cracks in the walls, potentially causing casualties from poisoning.

The main inspection items include ▲ installation of standalone alarm-type detectors and fire extinguishers (at least one) in each compartment ▲ installation of carbon monoxide detectors around boiler rooms (within 0.3m from the ceiling) ▲ opening of ventilation and air supply vents and inspection of exhaust pipes and ducts ▲ installation of combustible gas detectors around gas combustion appliances ▲ verification of flame-retardant performance inspection products such as wallpaper and curtains in guest rooms.

Fire Chief Moon Hee-jun said on the 5th, “Safety accidents in lodging facilities such as fires and carbon monoxide poisoning accidents carry a high risk of resulting in casualties,” and added, “For prevention, we ask facility managers to expand the installation of fire and gas-related safety facilities and to conduct daily inspections and maintenance.”
