'Wondang Re-Creation Project' Promotion
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Goyang City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 5th that it will promote the tentatively named "Wondang Re-Creation Project" to revitalize the Wondang area centered around the current city hall, following the plan to relocate the city hall to Baekseok-dong.
According to the city, the current city hall will house Goyang City's affiliated organizations and function as a secondary city hall as a complex cultural building including a cultural and arts center and a gymnasium.
In the mid to long term, the area around the city hall will be developed as a possible urban complex development zone to revitalize it, and the Jugo public parking lot and the site planned for the new city hall will be integrated into a "Creative Research and Development Campus" to promote job hub complex development.
The Wondang Station area is undergoing discussions with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to change the use of the ongoing Seongsa Innovation District urban regeneration project zone into a public parking lot and office space, aiming to create a venture hub for youth startups.
The area adjacent to Wondang Station (including greenbelt areas) will be developed as a startup and venture innovation hub for Goyang City. The Seongsa Innovation District will be designated as a "job creation hub area" and proposed as a pilot project for the Creative Innovation Campus district.
The plan is to combine Zone 1 and Zone 2 of the Seongsa Innovation District and change the plan to focus on office facilities under 100,000㎡ and public parking lots.
For redevelopment areas other than the under-construction Wondang 4 District, a consultative body will be formed for redevelopment, and urban redevelopment will be promoted block by block in the ongoing urban maintenance activation zones.
The city especially plans to develop Goyang-daero as a symbolic street by creating an activated pedestrian street and open cafe street along the approximately 1km stretch connecting Wondang Station's "Creative Innovation Campus" and "Creative R&D Campus," making it a place where people want to walk and enjoy.
Additionally, the site of the public parking lot above the tunnel road will be utilized as a complex cultural space, and linked with the adjacent buffer green space to create a citizen-use space.
