[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] The Gochang Dolmen Museum in Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, has been finally selected in the ‘2022 Public Museum Evaluation Certification’ conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
According to the county on the 5th, the certification system is an evaluation system introduced by the government to enhance the sound operation of public museums and improve services to the public.
The government evaluated museums that have been registered as public museums for more than three years on the achievement of their establishment purposes, appropriateness of organization, personnel, facilities, and financial management, thoroughness of collection and management of historical materials, and performance in holding exhibitions and operating educational programs.
Out of 272 public museums nationwide, only 139 museums were selected as certified institutions.
The Dolmen Museum has passed the certification for two consecutive years following the previous evaluation (December 2018), strengthening its position as a specialized museum utilizing world heritage.
Also, as the first dolmen-specialized museum in Korea, it exhibits various information related to the Gochang Dolmen Sites, a UNESCO World Heritage, through diverse methods.
In particular, it is conducting various projects such as management and storage of national cultural assets, planned exhibitions, world heritage media art, and world heritage utilization programs.
County Governor Shim Deokseop said, “The efforts to revitalize the museum have borne fruit, and I thank the residents who cherish the museum,” adding, “With the museum being selected as a certified institution in the public museum evaluation certification system for the second consecutive time, we will strive to improve the quality of museum services and further strengthen the role of cultural service institutions befitting the reputation of Gochang as a world heritage city.”
